Dorval-Lachine-LaSalle, Québec*

UPDATE: We are now operating out of Aire ouverte, an integrated youth service in Quebec. Click here to learn more about our services.

The CLSC de Dorval-Lachine and CLSC de LaSalle have both been catering to the psychosocial and mental health needs of young people from the communities of Montreal’s southwest for nearly a decade. Our clientele is made up 22,000 young people living in the boroughs of Dorval, Lachine, and LaSalle, including the former Ville Saint-Pierre. Close to two thirds of them are children of recent immigrants with linguistically, economically, and ethnically diverse backgrounds.

  • Our Approach

The staff at CLSC de Dorval-Lachine and CLSC de LaSalle are excited to be participating in the ACCESS Open Minds pan-Canadian research and evaluation project. From the very beginning of the project, our clinical practices have undergone several key changes to provide integrated mental health services. In that regard, a youth zone opened its doors on March 22nd at CLSC de Dorval-Lachine to provide quick, user-friendly, and secure access to our care and services. Our goal is to put the needs of young people and their families first, and to make sure their voices are heard.

Integrating the ACCESS Open Minds framework with the existing CLSC structure enabled us to focus more on providing individualized care and ensure appropriate, top-quality services are provided within a reasonable time to every youth in need. Our services were previously offered until the age of 18. Now, young people can benefit from our services until the age of 25. Fostering youth participation and that of their family and friends is among our priorities.

This project gives the CLSC de Dorval-Lachine and CLSC de LaSalle an opportunity to jointly work with several community partners to actively help reduce stigma and discrimination around mental health. We believe everyone should be treated as a person, not as a problem.
