August 2, 2018: The team at Dans la rue, along with six youth, were invited to have front-row seats at a rehearsal of the Orchestre de la francophonie, at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. About 90 student musicians make up this international orchestra, under the baton of Jean-Philippe Tremblay, and the DLR team had the opportunity to see the orchestra put the finishing touches on their interpretation of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3, which they performed to the public at la Maison Symphonique the following Sunday.

The young spectators, who listened to the 2+-hour rehearsal with great respect and attention, were delighted by this enriching experience. The had the opportunity to chat with the musicians and the conductor, who invited them to Sunday’s concert. For some of the youth attending, this was their first experience with orchestral music.

Access to music and culture remains relevant for all youth, and in particular those who can use a bit more support, to enable them to maintain good psychological health, as well as encouraging a critical view at the world that music opens.
