What services do we provide and who provides them?

Peer Support/Youth Outreach Workers: These workers are your first contact point for the ACCESS OM project, and they’ll be hosting the weekly youth drop-in nights, giving presentations in your schools and community, and participating in community events. You can find their office at the Youth Center.

What can the ACCESS Peer Support/Youth Outreach workers do for you?

  • Help you with your homework
  • Help with any school troubles you may be experiencing (i.e., bullying, discrimination, behaviour troubles)
  • Provide you with a safe space
  • Be your advocate when you feel your voice is not being heard
  • Organize fun activities based on what you tell them you want
  • Provide Peer Support Counselling
  • Refer you to our own Clinician if you are seeking mental health help
  • Accompany you to mental health appointments if you are nervous or anxious about going alone
  • Continue to help guide you through your healing journey until you feel you no longer need their services

ACCESS Clinician: The ACCESS Clinician is here to help you with all your mental health needs. ACCESS is not just a typical mental health program… our team is very flexible to be able to ensure that you are as comfortable speaking with our team as you would be with your own friends. The ACCESS Clinician’s main goal is to help you. You are the one who guides the process to best suit your needs, and the Clinician will accommodate those needs.

What can the ACCESS Clinician do for you?

  • Help you with having an initial mental health assessment completed within 72 hours of you first seeking help
  • Meet with you day or evening at the place of your choice
  • Help guide you through the mental health process
  • Help in developing a treatment plan for you with you
  • Continue to help and provide regular follow-ups with you

Join our Youth Advisory Council

You’re invited! The ACCESS Open Minds program of Elsipogtog would like to formally invite you to be a member of our Youth Advisory Council. This Council will be made up of like-minded youth who want their voices and opinions heard and acted upon concerning youth mental health policies and programming here in our community of Elsipogtog.

Your responsibilities to the council will be to attend our monthly meetings so that we, the ACCESS staff, can update you on what we are doing with the program, get your input on what you feel is working, and so we can learn what you want changed. We will hold an election to assign a Youth Representative to sit in on the ACCESS Open Minds Elsipogtog Executive council, including a Representative from the Family Council, Child and Family, Elsipogtog Health and Wellness, and Elsipogtog Justice. It is in the Executive meetings where all members of the youth council have a valued say in how things are run in each of the service provider departments in Elsipogtog.

In your monthly meeting, the executive council representative will update you on the executive meetings and obtain your feedback to take back to the executive council. As an example, if you, as a member of the Youth Council, feel that there should be more activity nights for youth, then you will voice that in the meeting and that will be taken to the decision makers.

ACCESS Open Minds is a community-led program, and in order to operate we need you to tell us what it is you want us to do in order to facilitate a happy and healthy community. Please contact us for more information!
