ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Presenter: Gayle Browne has been working with children and youth for over 25 years. Her social work career began back in the late 1990’s after graduating from Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She started working with children in women’s shelters and with families through the Children’s Aid Society, and then moved to Toronto in 1999 to start her Master’s degree in Social Work. She has experience working as a Social Worker at the Toronto District School Board and at the Hospital for Sick Children.

Since 2000, she has been working at the Kids Help Phone, first as a counsellor, then as a Clinical Practice Specialist and now, as a Manager of Training and Education. Her team develops and leads the clinical training and support for all of the Kids Help Phone counsellors across Canada. Gayle is thrilled to be sharing her knowledge on connecting with young people online through text, as there are unique challenges and strengths in communicating with young people this way.  

She is also a mom, a cat owner and taco lover.


Moderator: Shalini Lal is the Canada Research Chair in Innovation and Technology for Youth Mental Health Services, an Associate Professor at the University of Montreal and a Co-Lead Investigator at ACCESS Open Minds.
